MX ADVENTURES: RC update, Breast Cancer & Supercross, Matt Goerke interview

For all you Ricky Carmichael fans who still love and miss the guy, you can still be active in Ricky's four wheel career. I hear there's an online poll for the 2009 Most Popular Driver of the Year Award for the Nationwide / Camping World Truck Series, and RC is on that list, so go cast your votes at their web site: http://www.nascar.com

October is Breast Cancer Awareness month. But Feld Motorsports, and their Supercross race at Anaheim February 13, 2010 will help with Breast Cancer awareness as well. Wear pink for that race folks! Anaheim 3 Supercross is going PINK! (I expect everyone to be wearing at least somethink pink : ) Click here for more info.

As every year, different riders come into the Premier Supercross class. 2010 is no different. One guy who rode the East Coast 250 Lites class for the past few years will finally make his debut into the 450 Supercross Class in 2010 - Matt Goerke will line up with a 450 Yamaha this upcoming season, and I have an interview with him below.

Jeremy McGrath, David Bailey, Rick Johnson, Jeff Ward talk about racing Supercross today

Four of the greatest names in Supercross and Motocross history: Jeremy McGrath, David Bailey, Rick Johnson, and Jeff Ward (or should we say MC, 'lil Professor, RJ, and Wardy?). They have a total of 26 AMA National Supercross and MX Championships combined.

  • Jeremy McGrath: Seven AMA Supercross Championships. 1 AMA 250 National MX Championship. 72 career Supercross victories. Has won more Supercross Championships, and more Supercross events than anyone in history.
  • David Bailey: also known as the 'lil Professor, 1983 AMA Supercross Series Champion, and 3 AMA Motocross Championships. A great motivational speaker, more than 24 years after racing.
  • Rick Johnson: Seven time AMA Supercross / Motocross Champion. Never at a loss for words.
  • Jeff Ward: Also a seven time AMA Supercross / Motocross Champion, and the only rider to win championships in the 125, 250, 500 and Supercross classes.

Amanda talked to each of them on how they would do racing Supercross today. You'll enjoy their responses and camaraderie!

Yamaha announces 2011 teams for Monster Energy Supercross

Yamaha Motor Corporation U.S. is pleased to announce its entire line-up of teams ready to battle for the 2011 Monster Energy AMA Supercross Championship.

Headlining the assault is James Stewart. Signed to a two-year contract with L & M Racing, James is looking forward to winning his second title for Yamaha on his YZ450F. He's currently in lock down in Florida putting the finishing touches on his race prep and testing so he can come out with both barrels blazing at Anaheim 1.

Joining Stewart on Team L & M is Texas phenom Kyle Regal. Always a threat to podium outdoors, Regal has spent the last few months honing his Supercross skills turning lap after lap around the Yamaha Supercross test track.

RJ SAYS: Supercross, on four wheels

It was going to be a good idea. Key word being 'was'. It was going to be a good idea!

My idea was to show you what the truck racing series that I promote and race in is like. It's like Supercross, only on four wheels!

So, my plan was simple - I'd invite my good friend Lex out to the finale of the Traxxis TORC series in Las Vegas, we'd mount a camera on the hood of my race truck, and I'd show you just how rough the racing is. It would be me (a former 2 time AMA Supercross Champion) and Jeremy McGrath (best Supercross rider in history!) showing you supercross - on four wheels!

Here is the grand experiment - camera is mounted on my truck's hood. Ready to go. But not for long!

MX Adventures

A Supercross is usually filled with its share of dramatic moments. From the jump off the gate to those first turn pile ups, all the way to that finish and everything in between, the action at Supercross is always nonstop.

The 2010 Phoenix Supercross had more dramatic moments than your normal race. However it was in those days that followed that the drama grew with various opinions that were blasted across message boards and blogs. I certainly appreciated the hot topics brought to the surface by the many people who love the sport of Supercross. And like you I have my own thoughts on the James Stewart and Chad Reed 'incident' ...

It was just one year ago when a controversy made headlines with Jason Lawrence, Josh Hansen and Steve Boniface were 'fighting'.

The backlash for those guys were met by AMA officials. Last year the Rules stated that the following offense is subject to disciplinary action:

An attack on a Racing official and/or engaging in a fight. This includes any person who attacks or is involved in a fight anywhere on the premises prior to, during, or after an AMA Supercross meet. There will be no maximum fine or suspension period for this offense.

My point here is that Supercross is no stranger to its share of drama but in the aftermath of last year, and now Phoenix, what does it take to show some true sportsmanship and character in tough occupation?

James commented thru his blog initially. Info on Chad Reed came thru Kawasaki and Monster Energy Kawasaki Team Manager Mike Fisher stated that Chad would not return to racing until he is 100 percent. Chad is expected to miss a minimum of six weeks to heal his broken left hand. Six to seven weeks puts us near the Daytona Supercross and by then there will still be eight races left on the schedule.

Women's AMA Motocross National Championship numbers for 2011 season

Beginning last season, MX Sports Pro Racing implemented a new numbering system for the Women's AMA National Motocross championship. In years past, riders selected their numbers based on availability and order of selection was determined by where a rider finished in the standings the previous season. While the champion was designated to wear the number one plate, all other competitors were permitted to select any number that was available.

The 2010 campaign marked the debut of a new numbering system that determines a rider's number by where she finished the previous season. As a result, one's finishing position in the championship would serve as her number for the following season.

While Women's MX Champion Jessica Patterson will enter 2011 with the #1 plate on her bike, jersey and helmet, below is a list of the remaining numbers for next season's MotorcycleUSA Women's Motocross Championship in accordance to each woman's position in the final standings for 2010:

WMX Rider Insight: Vicki Golden's 2010 Season Review

When Vicki Golden turned pro in 2009, she went into the season open minded; she just wanted to see how she'd do in the Pros. It worked out pretty well for Vicki as she consistently finished in the top 4 in the first 5 rounds of the 2009 WMX season. After a season ending injury to Trey Canard, Geico Honda gave Vicki an opportunity to ride Trey's bike the remainder of the season of the Women's Motocross Series. It was a great experience as she finished 4th in Colorado, but her season ended prematurely as she injured herself in a practice session at Perris Raceway before the 6th round in Washougal.

In 2010 Vicki came back healthy and was picked up by Moto Concepts Yamaha. She wasn?t as consistent as she expected, but she did finish the season 4th overall points, with a 3rd place finish at the Pala Raceway National. In 2011 she will be running the #4 plate in the AMA Women's Motocross Series.

Vicki Golden sitting on the line at the inaugural Pala Raceway National

Vicki got back from Geneva, Switzerland a few weeks ago where she participated in a women?s supercross exhibition race with some pretty stiff competition.

A Fan's Guide to Supercross 2011: Phoenix

Here are direct links to the things you'll find interesting and helpful on Supercross.com as the 2011 Monster Energy Supercross Series goes to Chase Field in Phoenix!

Ryan Villopoto and Josh Hansen won the premiere Supercross class and 250 West class main events last Saturday in Anaheim, respectively.

First, info courtesy of Feld Motor Sports:

"This is a nice way to start out the season" said Villopoto. "Starting out this way makes things much easier. I hope I can start putting together some more wins and a championship this year."

Defending Monster Energy Supercross champion Ryan Dungey of Belle Plaine, Minn., finished second overall, two seconds ahead of San Manuel Yamaha's James Stewart. Despite a rough mid-pack start, Stewart charged through the field and by lap 12 had worked his way from 15th place to third, eventually moving on to secure a podium position.

Red Bull Teka KTM's AMA Supercross Lites team, Musquin & Roczen

Supercross.com has communicated with KTM regarding their 2011 AMA Supercross East and West Regional Lites Supercross program.

Ken Roczen, who will be racing with the number 194, will contest the West Supercross Series.

World Motocross Champion of MX 2, Marvin Musquin, will not be racing until the first AMA National Motocross in May. Marvin suffered a broken ligament in his knee, requiring major surgery. He is recovering and in therapy now, and although not racing AMA Supercross in 2011, is looking forward to racing the MX Nationals starting in Sacramento in May.

Jake Weimer Injured Before Start of the 2011 Supercross Season

The 2011 Supercross season is still 10 days from the opening race in Anaheim, but it claimed it's first victim today. The 2010 West Supercross Lites Champion, Jake Weimer, broke his arm while practicing for the opener. He will undergo surgery later today to repair the break. Stay tuned to Supercross.com for the latest information on Weimer's injury and all other Supercross news.

Supercross 2011: Five Things to Look For at Anaheim 1

Supercross 2011 is finally here! It has been a long and event-filled off-season. Roger De Coster left a 15 year relationship with Suzuki and went to KTM, where "The Man" will try to increase KTM's American presence in 2011. As part of that effort they signed Andrew Short, who left American Red Bull Honda. Rockstar Makita Suzuki added 2010's second place finisher in the AMA Pro Motocross Championship, Brett Metcalfe, to go alongside the 2010 champ of both Supercross and Motocross, Ryan Dungey. Josh Grant switched teams with Davi Millsaps. Trey Canard moved up from the 250 class to ride with Red Bull Honda. Jake Weimer signed a deal with Kawasaki's factory team and then broke his arm in practice. James Stewart and Ryan Villopoto are back from injuries. Chad Reed started his own team, "Two Two Motorsports". Christophe Pourcel has yet to sign a deal, and the Supercross class will more than likely be without one of the world's top riders. It is shaping up to be quite the 2011 Supercross season! So what can you expect when the gates drop Saturday night at A1? Here are my top five things to look for:
